Seniors Come Home Mass: We invite all high school seniors who graduated from SFA School to attend mass with us on Wednesday, May 23rd at our all school liturgy. Please help spread the word!
SACK LUNCH FOR FIELD DAY: As part of Field Day, on Thursday, May 24th, students eat a sack lunch outside. An email was sent on Monday, May 14th, from the school kitchen, with information on ordering a sack lunch from school. Please reply to the email or contact Cheryl to confirm an order. Students are welcome to bring a sack lunch from home. Milk and water will still be available for purchase for students who bring a lunch from home.
Connection Cafe Thank You: This school year, SFA donated 3,575 toiletry items to the Connection Café! These toiletries are an easy way for the clients to have access to and practice good hygiene. Please continue to fill the GREEN BIN in the Gathering Place outside of the church over the summer. The GREEN BIN outside the school office will return at the start of the next school year. Have a terrific summer and remember as you go on your family vacations to gather your unused toiletry items. Thanks again for all of your generous donations!
2018-19 Employment Opportunity: St. Francis Preschool is seeking a part-time Staff Associate. Individual will assist in preschool classrooms Monday (8a-3:30p), Wednesday (8a-11:45a) and Thursday (8a-3:30p) as well as be available and willing to work hours outside regular schedule to provide for possible program substitute staffing needs. Promising candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic and have a passion for working with preschool age children as well as drawn to a collaborative, teamwork environment and eager to learn themselves. Early childhood care or teaching experience is a plus but not required. Health and safety pre-service training is required and provided. Dowling Catholic Summer Camps and Clinics: New Camps have been added! Be sure to check out all of the camps offered at Dowling this summer!
Blank Children’s Pediatric Therapy summer handwriting camp June 11th- August 6th: This 8-week program will focus on improving your child’s pre-writing and handwriting skills grades pre-K through 5th. The Handwriting Without Tears curriculum will be used as a basis of our camps. Three separate 60 minute camps will be offered. Cost is $300 and includes all materials. Middle School Summer Math Prep: June 1-June 22. Keep your student’s math skills sharp this summer as they learn and prepare for next fall’s math curriculum. Classes will be offered at DCHS and are to provide background and enrichment. Students should sign up for the class they will be taking in the fall:
- 8:15 Geometry, 9:15 Algebra, 10:15 Junior High math

FAITH & OUTREACH
Registration for Vacation Bible School 2018 is now open for both participants and youth volunteers! VBS will be held June 11-15 from 9a-12p for children who will be entering Pre-K (Age 4) through 6th grade, in the fall. Registration Deadline: May 25, 2018. Cost: $50 per child. Please contact Rachel Thompson, VBS Coordinator, or call the Faith Formation Office at 515-440-1030, with any questions.
The Saint Francis Homeless and Hungry Committee supports our community by serving 3 local shelters. Volunteers are needed to help provide that support.
The Connection Café is a free lunch program that serves the homeless and low income community downtown.
- On the 3rd Wednesday of each month, a group from St. Francis of Assisi Church, serves a warm meal and brings supplies to the Connection Café.
- Each month, an email is sent out requesting help. Students can receive service hours by baking cookies, making the main dish, bagging trail mix, or laundry detergent.

Donate unused hotel toiletries (mini shampoos, soap, lotion, toothpaste, etc.) to either of the GREEN bins outside the school office or in the Gathering Space by the Church. Thanks again for all of your generous donations! St Francis truly makes a difference in our community!
Central Iowa Shelter and Services (CISS) Central Iowa Shelter & Services’ Mission is to provide low-barrier shelter, meals and support services at no cost to adults experiencing homelessness and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency.
- St Francis provides/serves a meal on the 9th and 10th of every month.
- Volunteers are needed to purchase, prepare and serve the meals.

St Joseph Emergency Family Shelter is the only emergency shelter in Polk County where the entire family unit can stay together. They provide safe, clean housing for homeless families for a limited stay.
- On the 2nd Saturday of each month, a group from St. Francis provides a meal to the shelter. There are several service opportunities for students.
